The AFE calibration light source provides stable output power at 850 nm and 1310 nm. The light source forms part of a calibration system for calibrating optical meters and photodetectors. The unit is assembled into a 1U 19inch rack mounted enclosure. It contains 850nm and 1310 nm Fabry Perot lasers each coupled to FC/APC outputs via dual stage optical isolators.
Each calibration test source is carefully tuned and adjusted by AFE’s team of optical test engineers. The performance and stability of each unit is tested for at least 72 hours in our environmental chambers prior to shipping to customers.
The calibration light source includes the following features
- Fabry Perot light sources at 1310nm and 850nm.
- Dual stage optical isolators.
- 30 minute delay timer and rear panel USB to indicate when light sources have stabilised.
- Stability of +/-0.1 dB tested for at least 72 hours over the temperature range 18°C to 28°C.
- CE certification
- The 850nm optical output has the following parameters
- FC/APC connector.
- Output coupled to 50/125 µm multimode optical fibre.
- Minimum output power of 3mW.
- Peak wavelength 850+/-10nm.
- The 1310nm optical output has the following parameters
- Butterfly package with internal Peltier cooler for Temperature control.
- FC/APC connector.
- Output coupled to singlemode 9/125µm fibre.
- Minimum output power of 5mW.
- Peak wavelength 310+/-10nm.
AFE can provide both custom and standard versions of the calibration lightsource.
Example modifications include single light source, changes to the internal lightsources such as wavelengths, DFB laser diodes, SLD light sources, fibre type and different front panel connectors.
